28th Regional Title

Game 18: (16-2)31 October: Region 1 Finals at STA vs. Sumner Academy (4-1)

Sumner pretty much looked like the team we expected. They were extremely good on the ball.  The did have a very good keeper—I am not sure we expected that. They were also pretty savvy defending set-pieces. We did finally break through on a few, but this game was still 0-0 with 5 left in the first half.

BWhite had to name Parker Stoecklein as the BWhite Player of the Match: he scored 3 more goals, and we only notched 4. He moved his goal total to 21 on the season.

The boys rang up 17 corners for the game, Parker creating 6 of them, Russell, 4 of them.

We did give up our first goal at home all year. And we gave up our first deadball goal of the year. It was a nice strike, off a corner, as we did not get it cleared.

We did have a couple more guys make varsity debuts tonight. Peyton Reboulet and Ryan Pope got in to provide us with some nice minutes.

We did win our boys'-soccer-state-best 28th Regional Title, and we did extend our streak to 18 in a row, but we are back in the State Quarterfinals against BV Southwest once again. We did beat them 1-0 the first time we played them, but this will be a whole lot of want-to from both squads.

Don't miss this one. The winner becomes a huge favorite in the Final 4 for the whole thing.

Our 32nd Post Season Begins

Game 17 (15-2)
29 October at home vs. Basehor-Lindwood in the Region I semi-finals (10-0)

And so it begins . . . we hadn't played in 12 days, and it showed a little early I thought. Also, Basehor came out with a plan as they packed it in well, looking for a few counters. That approach limited us pretty well during the first half.

We did move into a 3-5-2 fairly quickly, but still, we struggled some trying to create quality opportunities. BWhite named Max Bryson the BWhite Player of the Match because he probably did the best job of showing us how to attack. His play along the left flank got us two of our first-half goals, one a t-ball, and one a nice d-ball to Parker.

We did play everyone, with sophomore Mark Mason and junior Nick Garcia, getting their first varsity minutes. Mark even picked up an assist on a nice head flick off a Parker throw-in. And Nick was part of a group of 6 defenders who kept them out of the net. So, nice debuts.

Luke Konnesky tagged his first varsity goal—more to come.

We are now back Thursday for the Regional Finals at 6:00 at STA. We will be shooting for a state-best 28th regional title, and an 18th straight.

Bring on Sumner.
