Senior Night

Game 13: (11-2)At Saint Thomas Aquinas vs. Blue Valley (3-0)

Seniors Brennan Schroeder, Jack Martin, Gabe Kraft, John Anliker, Parker Stoecklein, & Shae Wirt were all in the starting lineup and were all on the field when the match ended and we became EKL Champions. I am pretty sure no one picked us to win the league. But this group did it anyway. Congrats.

Gags has Blue Valley playing so well. That team is going to make some noise in 6A. They were so well organized, connected pass after pass. I was proud of the way our guys defended, limiting them in both shots and corners.

We cashed 3 deadballs: a PK, a corner, and nice set piece. Deadballs just make scores look a lot different from what you might see if you were at the match. (It was 0-0 at the half.)  This was a pretty even match, especially in the first half, but the score said differently—that's the power of the deadball.

BWhite named Jack Martin the BWhite Player of the Match, and it wasn't because of his offensive side of the ball—that's always good. But tonight he was so good getting behind the hall, competing in the air for free kicks, goal kicks, punts.

We have to give a shoutout to Max Bryson who has been our lockdown left-back all year. We moved him to the wing to start the second half, and within a few minutes, he earned us a PK. That was the game-winning goal.  (After Parker scored we did move Max back to left-back.)

Jacob Muckerman got his first goal of the year tonight. He scored off a perfectly run set-piece that put him at the front post to punch it in.

Shae Wirt (0) and Carter Diggs (1) teamed up to allow only one goal in our first 7 EKL games—that says a lot about our defense and them as the EKL teams are good from top to bottom.

We have three games to go and each of them is very important to seeding for playoffs: Dodge City on Saturday and then Rockhurst and BV West.

We have to give a shoutout to the junior parents led by Mrs. Farrar who put on our reception for the seniors tonight in the Commons, decorated the field, and arranged the walk-in. Very classy. And Lisa Stoecklein, despite being a senior mom, put together an unbelievable video. Wow. Here is the march.

SENIOR PRAYER 2019:

Dear Lord,

As we travel through our lives we find they can be filled with struggles and strife.  In your mercy, we are sent beams from you.  Those beams light up our lives.  They bring us hope for the future.  They show us the good that can be done by those who care.

We are blessed that you share them with us.  From them we learn to use your gifts to touch the lives of others.  We pray we can honor you using our gifts as well as they do with theirs.

Tonight we honor six of your beams.  Their names are Shae, Brennan, Parker, Jack, Gabe, and John.  They are more than simply rays sent from your heavenly home to us.  They are true student-athletes.  They are sons, brothers, friends.  They are Saints .. And Lord we thank you that they are in our lives and in our world.

Amen
